about

I don't know what this song is about. Sometimes that happens. I do know that I'm referencing some very old childhood memories in here, stuff that happened when I was five or six. The "secret formula" was this legendary recipe that kids in my neighborhood believed could be used to create ACTUAL WEB FLUID, a la Spider-Man. The key ingredient: crushed spiders. I remember getting into this little cubbyhole where we stored our trash cans outside our apartment - I knew there were spiders in there, and I went in with a rock to squash them. I sat there, in the near-dark, for a very long time, trying to screw up my courage to do the deed.

In the end, I couldn't, and lost my opportunity to have actual real-life Spider-Man web fluid. Oh, the web-slinging I would have done.

lyrics

You, you're not the villain I was told you were
Still, one-sided stories leave a lot of holes to fill

Not since our ancestors came down from trees
Has prudent culling been so necess'ry
Don't wanna point a finger
When I hear your voice I hear a quaver

Here, I'm giving back what I do not deserve
Shills, all my heroes are confined in boxes
Smilin' in profile

A secret formula was written for
I trust you'll guard it carefully evermore
Uneasy feelings linger
When you speak to me I hear a quaver
