about
Sitting down to start a new tune, I found this one in my Ideas Folder, and it consisted of one guitar, direct into the board, played along with a click track, for about 4 and-a-half minutes. All the parts of the song were there. I have no memory of coming up with the ideas, or recording them in this way. So really, all I had to do was flesh out what was already done.
This one is all about THE RIFF, and the pounding of said riff into the dirt. I really enjoyed keeping this song as "stripped down" as I could. Every time I started thinking of ways to "jazz it up" and adding lots of weird parts to it (my default method of creating), it sounded too crowded. For most of the song, there's only one guitar, something I have almost NEVER done.
lyrics
So many people I trusted
So many myths have gone
Lost any need for religion
How could I choose just one
It feels like you aren't even trying
It'd be nice if you'd at least pretend
Ticking off items on both hands
Legends with cracking facades
Once you give up on the old ones
Come back, we'll create some new gods
Oh, not YOU!
I didn't mean YOU!
Never, never YOU!
I wasn't talking about YOU!
