about

This project came out of my online friendship with producer, guitarist, and looper extraordinaire Andre LaFosse. Andre expressed an interest in remixing some of the material from my "Any Raw Flesh?" album, and I thought that was a fantastic idea. It was originally supposed to be a 5-song EP of 2 or 3 remixes and 2 or 3 new recordings by me, then it became a full-length CD of several remixes and more new tracks, THEN it ballooned into a two-disc extravaganza.

And then financial realities hit (as they often do for indie art projects), and "Salve" became an 8-song EP of new recordings, acoustic versions of previously released songs, and one Andre LaFosse remix.

The bulk of Andre's remix work, which inspired the "Salve" project in the first place, was later released separately under the title "half-pint demigod."

If I had to do it all over again, I would have gritted my teeth, gone further into debt, and released all the material as a two-disc release. That really is what should have happened. Hindsight, you know.

But look! This is the DIGITAL version of the album, and you know what that means? It means I can UNDO my past mistakes (sort of), and so for this digital version of "Salve" here at Bandcamp, I am combining the contents of "Salve" with "half-pint demigod", the way the material was originally meant to be released. Dig in, there's a lot of crazy stuff to get through.

Track Name: Sleeping
I watch the clouds across the sky
They remind me of summers gone
And days I wished away

Take me back in time
Where the golden sun still shines

Little boy, don’t blink your eyes
Listen - did you hear your mother sigh?
And she can’t help with what you need today
Oh, yeah

I’m sleeping with my eyes wide open
And I wonder where my time’s gone
Every dream I ever had is broken
And I can’t seem to find today’s

I am running after time
Far away I must fly
‘Cause all I’ve left behind’s
Another lonely lullaby

Don’t you feel the same?
Remember well my name

Little girl, don’t waste your mind
Listen – did you hear your mother sigh?
The flower pressed beneath the weight so old
Oh, no

I’m sleeping with my eyes wide open
And I wonder where my time’s gone
Every dream I ever had was stolen
And I can’t seem to find today’s
Track Name: Owe You
Could've been, would've been,
Should've seen all of this coming down
But I chose to depend on you
Stuck up for you, put my life in your hands
Now I'll never make that same mistake again

Where did you go?
There’s nowhere to hide
There's no escape from yourself
Don't wait for me to justify

I don't owe you a thing
I don't want anything to do with you

If I am he if we were they and you were me
Would you see more simply? Would you open your eyes?
And take a look around at what's surrounding you
That's no gun you're running from, is it?
Track Name: My Dismay
Today I got the letter I sent you back in the mail
Marked “No longer at this address”
It’s hard to describe the sinking feeling I had then –
I still have it now
And when I call your number a strange voice answers
And it’s not yours - It’s not yours at all

You’ve spoiled me forever
You’ve spoiled me for good
You’re all gone to my dismay
You’re all gone to my dismay

I’ve learned that it’s not a good idea to try to forget
It’s just a useless exercise
I have on so many occasions recalled
How I stood with my back to your door
And I wish I’d turned around
And I wish I’d said something, anything to convince you otherwise
Anything at all

You’ve spoiled me forever
You’ve spoiled me for good

When you went away, were the little men gray
Like you thought they’d be?
Or did you move on, where you shine in the sun
Every day?
How can I look for another with you in my head?
Every day, I hear the radio say: “Love is all you need.”
Track Name: The Ending
And so we’ve reached the ending
Here we are and there it goes
I lie alone in this our house
Feel the stillness pound my breath from me

Change my name now?
Cut my hair, become as new
Won’t you tell me what I should do now
As I leave today
As I leave today

Here we are… it is ending
Track Name: Firefly (Acoustic)
A perfect picture
I liked your face the best
And into your bed I fell to rest
I didn’t see your eyes so cold
Eyes that were so cold

Even now I face you through the wall
Tight the lid of the killing jar
Warped the light and blurred the scars
Still, I think you’re smiling

Oh, like a firefly
Shine my love to you
Oh, to a firefly
Even you’re a god

Crystal clear
The words you said to me
Now there’s no more air to breathe
“You once meant more to me,
now I couldn’t care less.”
Couldn’t care less…

You can be loved
You can be one with me
You can be loved
I will be your firefly
Track Name: My Love For Lois Is Real (Acoustic)
Morning, time to rise and shine
While I watch my baby start her day
Showered, dressed by nine

Ready now, she closed her blinds
That’s OK, I’ll catch up on her way to work
Twenty feet behind

Oh, Whoa yeah
My friends all think I’m crazy
Oh, they have no idea

I’m no psycho in lipstick and heels
I know my love for Lois is real
Won’t read ‘bout me next to Manson, Gacy
When you see my love is real

I know when she comes and when she goes
I bugged all her telephones
and tape record her calls

Sometimes when she’s changing her clothes
I watch through my telescope
A grin beneath my nose

Oh, Whoa yeah
My shrink says I’m obsessive
Oh, he don’t have a clue

I’m no psycho in lipstick and heels
Can’t you see my love for Lois is real
Won’t read ‘bout me next to Dahmer, Bundy
When you see my love is real
